Mike Lynch: Who’s the businessman missing after the wreck in Sicily?
Mike Lynch, a tech guru and a millionaire from sales of software products, is among the missing after sinking a super yacht off the coast of Sicily. It is, says Guardian, one of the few examples of a businessman in the UK who created a global technology company, which has led many to call him Bill Gates of Britain, although in reality his story differs greatly from that of Microsoft’s founder. It is noted that about three months ago, the 59-year-old had been relieved of the 15-year-old charges of fraud he was facing in the US after the $11.1 billion takeover of his company, Autonomy, by Silicon Valley Hewlett-Packard giant in 2011.
If Lynch was convicted, he was afraid he would end up in prison because of problems he was facing in the lungs. I have various medical issues that would make my survival very difficult,” Lynch told the Sunday Times just last month.
” If the court adventure didn’t go well, that would be the end of my life in any sense.” Born in Ireland, Lynch grew up near Essex, from mother nurse and father firefighter. He studied physics, mathematics and biochemistry at Cambridge University but eventually specialized and turned to computer science. His doctoral thesis is considered one of the most read research papers in the relevant university community.
A representative of Leeds’ companies refused to comment. The Italian coast guard earlier announced that the vessel “Bayesian” sank to a depth of about 50 metres. The 15 people rescued were British, American and Canadian citizenship. Eight have been transferred to local hospitals.
