Mpox: 3 cases of the Claude variant 1b were detected in Britain

According to Great Britain’s health services, 3 cases of the Mpox Clade virus variant 1b were diagnosed in London.

Last week the first isolated case of the Mpox Clyde 1b virus in London was confirmed, while two more cases were just announced – in domestic contacts of the first case. The risk for the population of that country remains low.

The Doctors of the Therapeutic Clinic (Alexandra Hospital) of the Medical School of EKPA Theodora Psaltopoulou (Pathologist, Professor of Therapeutics- Epidemiology- Preventive Medicine) and Panagiota Zachraki (Biologist) summarize the data.

The first case detected in London last week was a person who had been on vacation in Africa, with flu-like symptomology 24 hours after returning to Great Britain (M.B.), while later a progressive worsening rash occurred. Contacts of all three cases are monitored and offered the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic handling (vaccination).

There is extensive planning in progress to ensure that health professionals are equipped and ready to respond to any further confirmed cases. Mpox is very infectious in close contact households and it is therefore not surprising that there are further cases in the same household.
