Global concern about threats Putin – The characteristics of the Oresnik system
== sync, corrected by elderman == @elder_man Putin the Russian-Ukrainian war. He, in his address warned of attacks on the countries that allow Kiev to hit Russia, arguing that the conflict in Ukraine has now received elements of a global nature.
As he said, Russia launched an attack with a mid-range ballistic missile against a Ukrainian military facility, codenamed “Oresnik”. “Russia launched a mid-range ballistic missile attack on Ukrainian military facility in response to recent Ukrainian long-range blows with Western weapons,” Vladimir Putin said in a television address.
He stressed that the rocket attacks targets at 10 Mach speed (about 2.5-3 km/second), making it impossible to intercept. He also warned the West that Russia is “ready for any development. If anyone still doubts that, they shouldn’t. There will always be an answer.” We believe we have the right to use our weapons against military targets of those countries that allow their use against our targets and in the event of escalation of offensive actions we will respond equally decisively and in the same way,” he stressed.
He noted that the enemy (p.p. Ukraine) failed to hit the targets he wanted in his strikes and stressed that attacks on Russia with Western weapons would not change the result of Russia’s “special operation”.
Ukrainian President Volontimir Zelensky described the use of the new Russian missile as “clear and severe escalation in the intensity and cruelty of war”. This is yet another proof that Russia is not interested in peace,” he wrote to X, adding: “Putin not only prolongs the war – despises those in the world who really want to restore peace”.
Earlier, Zelensky stated that the rocket had features of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), although Western officials contested this assessment.
The U.S. National Security Council reported that a “middle-range experimental ballistic missile” was used against Ukraine, adding that Russia probably has a limited number of these weapons, which are not expected to drastically change the course of the war.
Pentagon Deputy Press Representative Sabrina Singh confirmed that the US had been informed before launching the missile through Nuclear Risk Reduction Channels, used to exchange information, such as missile launch notices.
Matthew Saville, director of military science at RUSI (British institute of strategic studies), said that available information on the new Russian rocket shows that it has a greater range than the Iskanders used so far, with a range of up to 500 km. Medium-range missiles (IRBM), as Putin seems to describe, usually have ranges from 3,000 to 5,500 km
According to Saville, the use of such a weapon may not be of great military importance, but it is symbolically important, particularly in conjunction with Russia’s revised nuclear strategy. At the same time Britain’s Chief of Staff of Armed Forces answering a question about the readiness to engage in the event of escalation with Russia was clear.
” I don’t think there’s anyone in this room who might have the illusion that if the Russians invaded Eastern Europe tonight, we wouldn’t face them in battle,” Rob McGowan told a committee of the British Parliament Rob McGowan, deputy chief of general staff armed forces. Putin’s address comes at a time when the war in Ukraine – which on Tuesday completed 1,000 days – seems to be entering a new, dangerous phase. On Sunday, American President Joe Biden gave Ukraine the green light to use ATACMS missiles to hit targets within Russia, and two days later they were used in the Briansk region of Russia. On Wednesday, it was reported that Ukraine used Storm Shadow missiles against Russian targets. On the same day, Biden also agreed to provide Ukraine with anti-human mines. These western movements seem to have been an answer to the deployment of North Korean troops from Moscow to prepare an attack aimed at ousting Ukrainian forces from a region in the Russian Kursk district.
At the same time, Donald Trump is preparing to return to the US presidency in two months, promising to end American involvement in wars and invest taxpayers’ money in the lives of Americans. He has said he will end the Russia war- Ukraine within 24 hours, but without explaining how. This week, Putin – seemingly reacting to developments – further increased tension, relaxing the terms of use of Russian nuclear weapons, while Russia intensified air attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, at the same time as its ground forces progressed to eastern Ukraine.
