✅ The early security alert has now been restored and cleared by police. The South Terminal is reopening to staff and will be open to passers shortly.
Trains will also start calling at Gatwick Airport once the terminal is fully reopened. We would like to thank everyone for… pic.twitter.com/yNseHHBPmR

British police today announced that the suspected package left outside the U.S. embassy in London and which was blown up with a controlled explosion was a “frank” device, according to its first indications.
Police had earlier performed a controlled explosion near the embassy building, a 12-story special-built glass cube at Nine Elms, in southern London and ruled out certain areas. The embassy was later restored.
” Initial indications are that the object was a prank device,” said London Metropolitan Police. “An investigation will follow”.
“Some blockages of areas will remain in effect for the time being, but the majority of police mobilisation will stop now.”
The embassy announced that its operation was restored, but that all appointments scheduled for today with the public were cancelled.” Local authorities investigated and cleared a suspected package outside the embassy,” added to her announcement.
The United States transferred their embassy from Mayfair, to central London, to Nine Elms in 2018, partly for security reasons. In this former industrial area there are currently dozens of luxury apartment buildings along with the Batterysea Power Station, a 1930s building, which impresses with its red bricks and white chimneys and which has been converted into a shopping and tourist center.
