Scientists described the Eowyn storm as a “meterorological bomb” while stressing that climate change enhances the destructive power of storms. Winds run with the historic record of 185 km an hour and a man died in Ireland when a tree fell on his car in Donegal County. One out of five flights in the United Kingdom were cancelled and all trains stopped in Scotland. All schools in Northern Ireland were closed as the storm caused damage to buildings and dropped trees. Northern Ireland is in the “eye of the storm” with a real threat to life and property, First Minister Michelle O’Neill said. In fact, there are 280,000 houses left. About 117,000 homes and businesses are without electricity in central and southern Scotland and another 5,000 in Wales, according to SP Energy Networks.
More than 4.5 million people received emergency alerts on their cell phone while emptying the shelves at supermarkets.
