Ukraine: 100-year historic deal signed Starmer and Zelenski in Kiev

British Prime Minister Kir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volontimir Zelenski signed on Thursday (16/1) a 100-year landmark partnership agreement to deepen security ties and strengthen their countries’ relations.

” Today is indeed a historic day, our relations are closer than ever,” Zelenski told reporters after the agreement was signed.

Taking the opportunity Starmer said his government would send a new mobile anti-aircraft defence system to Ukraine which “developed to meet Ukraine’s needs”. Kir Starmer’s visit to the presidential palace in Kiev was accepted with a message from Russia when an unmanned aircraft made a flight within breath. The sound of anti-aircraft fire was heard in the palaceyard, as the sirens warned of possible attacks with drones. This is a daily phenomenon in Ukraine. An unmanned aircraft was shot down, although eyewitnesses believe they were attempting at least two drones and suspect that they were probably drones, as what was shot down did not explode at impact. Report on the event Zelenski made saying “We’ll greet them too”. For his part Starmer stated that the threat from drones was “a reminder of what Ukraine faces every day” and that the war was caused by “Russian aggression”. This was Starmer’s first visit to Kiev after his election victory last July. Before the meeting the British Prime Minister had stated that his country would give Ukraine the assistance it needed to find itself in the strongest position possible fighting Russia in 2025, Starmer said before meeting with Zelenski during his first visit to Kiev since taking office in July.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volondimir Zelensky warned Europe that he has no “no chance” against Russia without Ukraine. Speaking to the Polish media Onet, Zelensky said Ukraine’s victory was vital to stop the Kremlin before invading the rest of Europe.

” Europe without the Ukrainian army will not cope with the Russian army because it is larger in numbers. Russia has more weapons, more people and is tougher than Europeans,” he said.

” Without the Ukrainian army, Europe unfortunately has no chance against Russia today. Putin knows that and talks about it in his circle,” Zelenski added. “As such, if Ukraine does not defend itself, it will proceed quickly. That’s a fact. I am absolutely convinced of that.” Since the start of the war at least 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and 370,000 have been injured by repelling Moscow’s advance, according to official Ukrainian evidence revealed last month, compared to 600,000 dead and wounded reported in Russia.

At the same time, European officials who spoke in Bloomberg, said Trump was not expected to push Kiev into early negotiations with Moscow, while continuing US military support in Ukraine. It is recalled that the U.S. elected president’s candidate for the position of special envoy in Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, told Fox News last week that he would like to find a solution within the first 100 days of the Trump administration.
